The water level sensor monitors remaining water in the humidifier reservoir and needs one-time calibration for accurate readings.
Dashboard Card
The water level card shows:
- Current water level percentage in large text
- NOT CALIBRATED badge if sensor needs calibration
Water Level Modal
Click the Water Level card on the dashboard to open the water level modal.
The modal displays:
- Current water level percentage
- Calibration status
- Warning if water level is low (below 20%)
- Calibration button (if not yet calibrated)
Calibration Process
The water level sensor must be calibrated once during initial setup or if readings become inaccurate.
When to Calibrate
Calibrate the water sensor when:
- First setting up OpenShrooly (card shows NOT CALIBRATED)
- Water level readings seem inaccurate
- After replacing or servicing the water sensor
- If you see the ✓ status missing in the water modal
Step-by-Step Calibration
-
Check Status: Look for “NOT CALIBRATED” badge on the water level card
-
Click “Calibrate Water Level”: Opens a calibration modal with detailed instructions
-
Empty the Reservoir:
- You can pour the water out of your shrooly, but be sure to pour towards the middle fo the unit as there is a crack between the brown and white plastic that shouldn’t get wet.
- Make sure the reservoir is completely dry before proceeding
-
Start Calibration:
- Click the “Start Calibration” button
- Confirm that you really want to calibrate
- It should only take a second before confirming
-
Refill the Reservoir:
- Fill the reservoir to the bottom of the small indent on the left side
Understanding Water Level Readings
These are pretty hokey. The original shrooly firmware doesn’t attempt to put a number the fill level and instead give no more detail than “low”. OpenShrooly should be able to detect if the reservoir is dry (even without this) because it can alert when it tries to humidify and doesn’t increase the humidity.
